# Calendar

The trade **calendar** is the solar calendar used by Prosperan sailors and traders for accurate circumnavigation and when prior lunar-based navigation proved to be insufficient for extreme long distance sailing. Olam makes a revolution around the sun every 340 days, which constitutes a year. Specifically it makes a revolution every 340.071428 days (- every fourteen years a thirty-first day is added to Izreyna's total days, bringing it to an uneven 341 days, split up into 11 months, of 31 days each, and a special holiday takes place). The year is normally split into 11 months, 10 of which have 31 days while the very first month has only 30. Each month is split into 6 weeks, except on the occasion where the first month only has 5, which occurs every three years. There are only three variations as the year can only start on three days: Izreyna, Mireena, or Seyana. Each week has 6 days. The following are listed in Prosperan Trade Common.

OOC: Someone 100 years old in Earth years would be 107 in Prosperan years. Someone 27 would be 29. 70 would be 75. The conversion formula is: (age in years * 365 = x_{e age}) x_{e}÷ 340 = x_{p}. Every 14 years a day is added but this is rarely relevant. This does mean that the general age of adulthood is 16 or 17 depending on region, which equates to 17 or 18 in Earth years.

Each fourteen year grouping denoted by the correctional years is considered a 'cohort' or 'generation', and typically are celebrated in the stead of every 10 years, which is more standardized. Being born on these correctional years is also considered good luck. While this is the standard 'trade' calendar, and the calendar is shared by Makhian regal usage, the specific names of the days and when year '1' is changes. When keeping track of the years, it's best to both remember how long ago the last correctional year was, as well as whether it's in the waxing (first 15-30 years or so) or waning (year 31-60~ or so) regal period of Makhia.

The 11 months are, in order,

Izrau (the 30 day month), Arau, Simau, Hakhau, Henau, Savatai, Zheimai, Sanae, Kisi, Teveshai, and Rhaeai.

The days of the week are, in respective order,

Izreyna, Zireyna, Mireena, Larana, Seyana, and the last day of rest, Ariana.

**First correctional year**

The first one begins on Mireena. Because of this and the additional day added, the order of days **resets**. The following 340 day years begin on Zireyna, Ariana, and Larana.

**Second correctional year**

The second correctional year begins on Ariana, which means the following year begins on Seyana, resuming the same original cycle. The third correctional year begins on Mireena; the fourth again on Ariana.

Time is counted in each **second**, measured by the atomic decay wavelength of **9,192,631,770 cycle**s of a caesium-133 atom, of which **60** make up one **minute**, **60 minutes** make up one **hour**, and **20 hours** make up one **(to)day**. **340** (approximately) **day**(s) make up one complete **solar revolution** of Olam around its star, Anshar.

Olam's relatively fast rotation and tendency to stick out towards the star leaves the equatorial regions sunbaked while the more temperate tropical regions have more reasonable day/night cycles, with the north pole being a permanent glacier and the south pole alternating between melting and freezing. The Endless Desert is specifically known for being one of the most exposed regions on the surface and the most abused by near-constant solar radiation.
